elcome to Brasserie St Jacques – the taste of Paris in St James’s
What could be more incongruous than a marvellous French Brasserie in St James's - that quintessentially English street, but the eponymous Brasserie St Jacques is just that; a taste of Paris in the heart of St James's.
Opened last year by Richard Weiss and Chef Laurence Glayzer, these gallant musketeers have brought to London the authentic traditional taste of fine Gallic cuisine that one remember from one's first forays across the Channel. For example: Escargots à la Bourguinonne, Roasted Bone Marrow, Coquilles St Jacques followed by Sole Limande avec sa Sauce Nantua, Tartare de Boeuf, and Suprème de Poulet poché aux jeunes legumes...
The wine list is superb and there is something for everyone's pocket. The service is exactly what you'd expect from a top French restaurant: immaculate.
Chef Laurence Glayzer, an honorary Frenchman if ever there was one, was trained by Bernard Loiseau and Georges Blanc and worked at The Savoy and The Ritz. Larger than life Richard Weiss hails from Alsaçe and has the distinction of being the World's Champion Sabreur. This means that he can chop off the top of a bottle of Champagne quicker than you can say zut alors! The third member of this talented team is the debonair Romain Blanchard, whom many will remember presiding imperturbably over the tables at Scott's.
A delicious Prix Fixe menu at £19.50 for three course (£15.50 for two) is served at lunchtime and the superb à la carte menu is available for both lunch and dinner. This classic French 'restaurant du quartier' is the closest you'll get to France without catching the train. Messieurs, Mesdames your table awaits!
